run cycle
I got some video tutorials to help with my Maya knowledge. First up was "digital tutors: animating next-gen characters in Maya. It has some great tips, including the middle mouse click on the timeline to freeze a pose, love it. Here's a resulting run cycle from going thru the steps on the DVD. I'm going to spend a little more time on runs. . .

Playing with the Pass Position
Following some exercises in Richard's Williams Animation Workbook for modifying the feel of a walk by altering just the pass position and leaving the contact positions the same.

After 10 years of using 3D Studio Max, I'm starting to finally teach myself Maya. I'm going to start by learning everything on the animation side so probably the first few weeks I'll just be messing around with different rigs and walk cycles and maybe a little Mel. So far I've figured out how to display motion trajectories and use the graph editor. Here's a basic walk. . .
